Digital Content Specialist

Department: Communications
Location: Boyds, Maryland (limited telework available – 8 hours per week)
Reports to: Communications Manager
Full time, some evening and weekend hours possible, some travel possible

The Digital Content Specialist is a member of the communications team who works cross-functionally to support various departments that utilize digital content, including communications, development, events and volunteer activities, and dog programs. Working strategically with these functional areas, the Digital Content Specialist will plan and maintain WCC’s social media accounts; create blog, newsletter and vlog content, assist with website maintenance; provide detailed analytics and SEO/SEM, and play an active role in guiding digital strategies and planning. Key Job Functions

  • Plan, manage, and execute social media strategy and tactics across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, and Explore.org.
  • Research audience preferences, create engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Facilitate and monitor online conversations with supporters and selectively respond to posts. Monitor messages and respond in timely manner.
  • Perform daily audits of all WCC dog-related social media accounts and provide guidance to volunteer content providers.
  • Create engaging content for corporate partner and major donor social media accounts and blogs.
  • Report on online reviews, discussions, and feedback from social media followers.
  • Create strategy, implementation, and maintenance plans for a YouTube video channel and new LinkedIn account.
  • Monitor Explore.org camera pages and respond to questions and commentary when appropriate.
  • Serve as in-house analytics expert to measure web traffic; monitor and report on SEO, SEM and email analytics.
  • Assist in the writing of semi-monthly newsletter.
  • Stay abreast of trends in all digital channels; make recommendations for increased effectiveness and engagement.
  • Develop and distribute monthly reports and insights on web traffic, engagement, trends and insights, and downloads.

Required Experience, Skills, Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, new media, communications, journalism, or similar
  • Experience in multiple social media platforms and social media advertising.
  • Knowledge of SEO/SEM, keyword research, and Google Analytics.
  • Strong people skills; ability to engage with a broad base of supporters, subscribers and interested individuals with enthusiasm and professionalism.
  • Strong visual and written communication skills; ability to create engaging content using writing, video and photography.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong project management skills.
  • Ability to juggle multiple deadlines within the context of an editorial calendar.
  • Ability to support crowdfunding campaigns.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and responsibilities.
  • Ability to collaborate within a team environment and assume additional responsibilities when required.
  • Flexibility with work schedule in support of deadlines and events.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Familiarity with the military community, issues and interests.
  • Familiarity with email marketing tools.
  • Familiarity with Google and electronic file sharing
  • Familiarity with crowdfunding platforms and strategies.
